Mazatlan Review

Saturday morning we left Arkansas at 6am and it was in the low 50's - I was cold! When we arrived in Mazatlan that afternoon it was like stepping into a sauna. The average temperature while we were there was 90 plus with almost 80% humidity. We checked in and unpacked. Saturday night we watched a Vegas style show and started in on the margauritas. Sunday we layed by the pool and caught some rays. Monday we enjoyed a city tour, where we saw the historical center, the cathedral and the Market. On this tour we got to see the cliff divers. He dove off the cliff into water that was only 6 feet deep. We ended the tour with a meal and I discovered Pacifico Beer!!! Tuesday we visited La Noria, a community where we saw saddles and sandals being hand made. We visited St. Anthony's church, built in the 19th century. And then we toured Los Osuna tequila factory and Greg tried 65 proof Tequila. He doesn't remember the rest of the tour. Wednesday we went to Deer Island on the Kolonahe, a big catamaran boat, where we took a banana boat ride, tried snorkeling (not very good in the Pacific - we much prefer the Caribbeans) and had lunch on the beach with an open bar I might add. That night we went to Las Casa Country had had the best ribs and steaks we had tasted. The waiters entertained us with singing and dancing. We really liked this place and recommend it. Thursday we got up at 5:30 to go Sport Fishing. I really wanted to catch a Marlin but luck wasn't with us and we returned home 9 hours later empty handed. We enjoyed the Mexican Buffet and Fiesta show that night. Friday we headed into the Sierra Madre Mountains to an old colonial mining town. The streets were cobble stone and the roofs were all red tile. We toured a brick factory where they bricks were made by hand and then to a bakery that was actually in a private home. Very delicious bread. We toured a furniture shop also where they hand made gorgeous furniture. I just couldn't figure out how to get it on the plane though! We had lunch at a quaint little restaurant up in the hills on an open terrace. It just doesn't get any better than this. This being Friday, we knew we had to do some last minute shopping so after we got back we hit the streets. We ended the night with shrimp and Pacifico beer at Capitano's on the beach serenaded by a Mariachi band and a red rose from Greg. I know this sounds like a lot but this was only the highlights of each day. We went to several great restaurants and rode in pulmanerias (open cars kinda like a golf cart) and even when to Wal Mart (this was definitely an experience!). Then it was back to the states where coming back through customs and immigration was an experience to say the least.

The view from our balcony at sunset!
The view from our resort door!
